UFC 101 in Philly - Penn vs Florian
June 8th, 2009
Mike Brown managed to spoil the party... again. In front of an estimated 13,000+ at Arco Arena in Sacramento on Sunday, Brown successfully defended his WEC Featherweight title against superstar challenger Urijah Faber... in Faber's own backyard.

The reception Faber got was tremendous, almost a pro-wrestling like atmosphere. Brown was heavily booed, but moreso because he was "the rival of the hometown favorite" as opposed to anything he himself did to anger the fans.

Congratulations to WCF fighter Jon Jones for his UFC victory!

Tickets on sale now for Sept 19!

Boston, Mass. – World Championship Fighting would like to congratulate Jon Jones for his recent victory at UFC 87. Jones made a statement in his fight against undefeated fighter Parker Porter at WCF 3 in June, knocking his opponent out in just 36 seconds of the first round. With the win, Jones served notice to the light heavyweight division that we was ready for a shot in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Jones was selected as a late replacement for his opponent and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, Andre Gusmao. Coming into the fight many MMA experts were picking Gusmao as the favorite based on his experience since Jones just recently began competing professionally in 2008, while Gusmao has faced top level competition since beginning his fighting career in 2006. Although Jones only recently started fighting he had already amassed a perfect 5-0 record with four wins by Knockout. Gusmao was also undefeated at 5-0 coming into the fight which made for a very compelling matchup. Jones, a wrestler turned Mixed Martial Artist, has shown a natural inclination for striking and proved too much for Gusmao in his UFC debut. Jones’ performance and raw talent even garnered the attention of UFC heavyweight contender Cheick Kongo and former UFC light heavyweight Quinton Rampage Jackson.
