Great fighters are already great, but an amateur must earn it. With nothing to gain, but recognition and forward progress an amateur lays it all on the line. There is no room for comfort or complacency, there is only hunger and desire.

The hungriest of fighters and the most dangerous of competitors is one with nothing to lose. Or in this case nothing to gain but honor, pride, and hopefully the sweet taste of victory.

An amateur fighter fights for no purse. Their reward is in the experience and trial of battle. Every fighter must walk this path. Only the most sound of warriors will endure the journey and emerge as contenders.

For the female fighter, that journey has been an uphill one. In a sport dominated primarily by men, they must train, push, and fight harder to make their voice heard. It is not for lack of talent, heart, or fight in them. These ladies are game for sure. It is because their journey in this sport has gotten a late start.

In a sport that has struggled so mightily to gain acceptance, women’s mixed martial arts was never a front burner issue. Groundwork was being laid for the foundation of the sport and WMMA unfortunately was not part of the focus in that charge.

That is all changing thanks to organizations like Tuff-n-uff. When asked about WMMA, Tuff-n-Uff Vice President Jeff Meyer has a refreshing perspective.

“Wow, so much comes to mind but most importantly Id like to say that we believe in woman’s MMA,” Meyer said. “I don’t know of any other female sport that I’d really watch to be quite honest and I feel like it’s a sign of the times”

In a time where female MMA is garnering mixed emotions, some promotions are shying away from this aspect of the fight world. Lately, any woman fighting not named Carano or Cyborg probably isn’t getting the attention she deserves. The bottom line is that’s a shame.

This is an aspect that is here to stay, but some have overlooked WMMA and perceived it as a heavy underdog. Tuff-n-uff is challenging this theory head on. Any fan of the sport loves an underdog, and we all know some of the greatest were just that.

Optimism and dedication like this is what will bring WMMA into the lives of fans. By supporting the fighters Mr. Meyer and his organization have become an integral part of the process. Their efforts open the door for ladies like Paige Zio who has the skill and a sharp fighting mind to become the future of WMMA with the right opportunities.

All that said, check this out. Friday night at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas, history will take place. The event is Tuff-n-Uff’s Tuff Girls event. The first ever all female fight card in Las Vegas.

They intend to showcase just how exciting WMMA can be. On a card loaded with amateur female fighters the fans will get to see it for themselves. If you haven’t seen a girl by the name of Moa Palmer fight, do yourself a favor and google her. Then do her a favor support her ascent by supporting WMMA.

These ladies will get a chance as a collective group to really put their brand of MMA on the map. The audience will be loaded with fans as the streets will surely be flooded with them this weekend. These ladies are gonna rock the house because they know they can be a part of the legacy.

They could not have picked a better time to do this either. This weekend MMA is the topic in Vegas. It is what is going on period. Who wouldn’t like to catch two MMA events in one weekend.

It just so happens that The Orleans Hotel is conveniently located, and the tickets are fairly priced.

To get into this event at the Orleans Arena, general admission is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Feel like getting closer to the action? V.I.P. tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. For the price of a few games of blackjack, fight fans can sit right on the main floor and watch this card go down.

Fans who shell out for the better seats should not be surprised if they bump elbows with some of MMA’s notorious. Many of the sports finest have been spotted at these events, even living legend Randy Couture.

This is a great opportunity to support a grass roots effort in this sport. It starts with the great fans and their support, and they have been rewarded with mainstream MMA. They have seen the sport branch out and really flourish. Now a new branch is developing a strong hold and it needs the support of those loyal fans mentioned before.

Bottom line is this. WMMA is on the rise. With superstars like Carano paving the way and hopefully opening the door for other great fighters to step through, it is just a matter of time.
