Tim Means out of UFC on FOX 5 Bout with Abel Trujilo, Marcus LeVesseur Steps in
By Adam Martin
The injury bug has cursed the UFC again.
According to UFC president Dana White today on Twitter, Tim Means, who was set to fight Abel Trujilo on the FX-televised portion of UFC on FOX 5, slipped in the sauna cutting weight today, hitting his neck and knocking himself out cold. He was set to fight Abel Trujilo at the event, which takes place tomorrow night at KeyArena in Seattle, Wash.
Means has now been pulled from the card and has been replaced by Marcus LeVesseur. LeVesseur was originally set to face Michael Chiesa on the card, but was pulled when Chiesa suffered an illness just last week. Now, he’ll be fighting Trujilo on basically a day’s notice.
It’s a tough break for Means, and he and Trujilo were originally set to clash at the doomed UFC 151 event, but of course we all know what happened there. Means, who is one of the top strikers in the lightweight division and one of the most promising 155-pound prospects out there, was in the best shape of his life for Trujilo and it’s disappointing for everyone that he won’t be able to perform tomorrow night.
Thankfully, though, the UFC had LeVesseur on standby, so the card still stands at 11 total fights. LeVesseur vs. Trujilo should be a grind, and with no training camp specifically to fight each other, look for both guys to just work for takedowns and try to get a decision win.
UFC on FOX 5 takes place tomorrow night and is headlined by the UFC lightweight title bout between champion Benson Henderson and challenger Nate Diaz.
