Raucous overflow crowd gets a thrill at Meadow Brook
ROCHESTER HILLS, MI. — It was another tremendous Donofrio Entertainment promotion on September 19 at the Meadow Brook Music Festival grounds at Oakland University, and there was an added twist, as three championship belts were at stake.
A crowd of close to 4000 fans, who overflowed into the grass area of festival seating, was electric as it was treated to fourteen bouts featuring the absolute finest mixed martial artists in the Great Lakes region…and beyond. By all accounts, it was one of the most well received shows in recent memory, and everything was recorded by TVS Communications Solutions for the reality television show that will air on Comcast in conjunction with Donoforio Entertainment.
The Impact Fight League was on hand to settle titles in three separate weight divisions. To get the evening’s championship triple-header underway, Justin Tavierne of Dallas captured the welterweight crown with a decision over Tony Zelinski of Windsor, Ont., then Justin Houghton of Lansing scored a decision over Kevin Aguilar for the lightweight title. To close out the glittering card, Sean Baker of East Detroit became the middleweight champion when he won by a second-round submission over Dan Melanber.
Impact Fight League title bouts will become a staple of Donofrio promotions, including the next one, which will take place on NOVEMBER 14 from the world famous PALACE OF AUBURN HILLS. Donofrio was pleased to report that many of the area promoters were in attendance, some of whom will be conducting qualifying bouts for Impact Fight League titles in preparation for the next show.
To make the evening even more interesting, there was a special surprise guest – former junior lightweight, lightweight and junior welterweight boxing champion Hector “Macho” Camacho was on hand to witness the festivities, and to tell people he’s not through just yet…in the ring that is!
Yes, it was “Macho Time,” for most of the competitors anyway. For others, it was “Macha Time.”
You see, also highlighted on the September 19 card, titled NO PAIN-NO GAIN, were three fights featuring fantastic females, as Elsa Gallegos, Randa Markos and Jennifer Kelly posted wins. Promoter Joseph Donofrio was impressed, and stated that he expects to put more female matches in the future.
“I’m just delighted with the turnout and the wonderful job Anne Morrell (the matchmaker) did for us,” said Donorfrio. “These were highly competitive bouts once again, and what people have come to expect from our promotion. Everything went incredibly smooth and the venue was once again a winner. All of this is a tribute to the great people I have working with me, along with the folks at TVS and of course, Palace Sports & Entertainment (which manages the Meadow Brook venue).”
This was a vocal audience, and even those fans buying the special VIP packages, which include private parking, private entrance, private bar, exclusive seating on the stage, All Access credentials and photo ops can’t hold themselves back.
Chris Sawicki and wife Jackie, two of the many Donofrio Entertainment VIP’s, were hardly subdued. “On their way out they made sure they stopped to tell me that this was absolutely the best MMA show they have ever seen,” said Donofrio. “They told me they had been to two UFC shows and this one was better, not just in the quality of the fights, but in the production and professionalism.
“That’s the kind of thing that makes me smile. That’s what it’s all about.”
Tickets now available for the November 14th show at the Palace.
