ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (June 10, 2009) –Mixed martial arts promotion Ring of Combat is proud to announce that its 25th live event will take place on Friday, June 12th at the world-famous Tropicana Casino & Resort.
A proven attraction that has succeeded where most other MMA promotions have failed, Ring of Combat will feature some of the hardest hitting action that Atlantic City has ever witnessed.
For the ROC Middleweight Championship, Rafael “Sapo” Natal (10-1) will square off against Victor O’Donnell (7-0) from Team Vison/Walker MMA.
Sapo’s two recent victories in ROC 23 and 24 were dominating performances, both with his stand-up and grappling/submission skills.
Sapo first dismantled Alexandre Moreno at ROC 23 with a KO punch in the first round. At ROC 24 on April 17th, he spent most of the fight softening Plinio Cruz until he slipped his opponent into a rear-naked choke. Sapo has proven that he has the ability to finish any fight, anywhere, at any time. His opponent Victor O’Donnell has an undefeated professional MMA record, with 6 of his 7 wins being by submission. O’Donnell has won 4 bouts by arm bar submission, and his most recent victory was with a rear-naked choke submission. Both Sapo and O’Donnell are veteran MMA fighters with a lot to gain from this fight.
Then, for the USKBA Light Heavyweight United States Championship Title, Ricardo Romero (7-1) will take on Karen Grigoryan (6-0), with 3 of those wins by TKO, all coming in the first round.
Last September, Romero was disqualified from a match for a kick to the head of a downed opponent. Romero is looking to redeem himself after that blemish on his record. Since then he has scored two big victories over James McSweeney (trained by Greg Jackson) and Brendan Barrett.
Ring of Combat is Atlantic City’s longest running mixed martial arts promotion, and has proven to be a breeding ground for fighters of the next generation. Top fighters who began their careers with Ring of Combat include Matt Serra, Frank Edgar, Josh Koscheck, Kurt Pellegrino, and Phil Baroni.
