TWO TITLE FIGHTS HEADLINE VERSUS’ LIVE WORLD EXTREME CAGEFIGHTING® (WEC™) EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 10 AT 9 P.M. ET

Top-Ranked Featherweight in the World, “The California Kid” Urijah Faber, Defends His Title against Mike Brown and Paulo Filho Defends Middleweight Title in

Highly Anticipated Re-Match against Chael Sonnen

Jens “Lil Evil” Pulver Takes On Leonard Garcia in Featured Undercard Bout

NEW YORK, NY (September 3, 2008)—VERSUS, the network that celebrates real competition and the exclusive television home of World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC), today announced the card for the network’s ninth live telecast on Wednesday, September 10. Two championship fights headline the night as Featherweight champion “The California Kid” Urijah Faber and Middleweight champion Paulo Filho defend their WEC titles live on VERSUS at 9 p.m. ET. The telecast will originate, for the first time, from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. and is presented in HD and Spanish language SAP where available.

“The California Kid” Urijah Faber (21-1), captured the Featherweight title in March 2006 and has dominated the division since then with first round wins over Joe Pearson, Dominic Cruz, and Chance Farrar. His monumental victory in June came when he defeated UFC® legend Jens Pulver after five explosive rounds in what was the most anticipated featherweight fight in MMA history. On September 10, Faber returns to the cage to fight one of his toughest opponents yet in Florida-native Mike Brown. Brown (19-4) has compiled an impressive MMA record over his seven-year pro career. In his most recent bout in June, the well-rounded fighter earned his chance to fight for the Featherweight title by defeating Jeff Curran in an exciting three-round bout.

Paulo ‘Eli’ Filho (16-0) made his WEC debut in 2007 when he stopped Joe Doerksen in the first round to win the Middleweight title. He was pushed to the limit in his first title defense last December against Chael Sonnen (21-9-1) who dominated the first round. In the second round, Filho rebounded, but controversy ensued when the fight was cut short and Filho retained his crown. A true champion, Filho granted six-year MMA veteran Sonnen a re-match fight and another shot at taking the title.

UFC® legend Jens “Lil Evil” Pulver (22-9-1) and Leonard Garcia (15-3) will step into the cage for one of the night’s featured undercard fights. Pulver, a true MMA pioneer who put the lighter weight classes on the map, is looking to get back on track after an incredible five-round battle against Faber in June. Garcia was last seen in the cage in February, when he knocked out Hiroyuki Takaya with a flurry of punches in just one minute and 31 seconds.
