UFC 101 in Philly - Penn vs Florian
June 8th, 2009
Mike Brown managed to spoil the party... again. In front of an estimated 13,000+ at Arco Arena in Sacramento on Sunday, Brown successfully defended his WEC Featherweight title against superstar challenger Urijah Faber... in Faber's own backyard.

The reception Faber got was tremendous, almost a pro-wrestling like atmosphere. Brown was heavily booed, but moreso because he was "the rival of the hometown favorite" as opposed to anything he himself did to anger the fans.

The Maximum Fighting Championship, one of the premier mixed martial arts organizations in North America, invites the media to attend the official press conference for MFC 19: Long Time Coming.

The press conference will take place on Wednesday, December 3 at 2 p.m. at Centre Bar inside the River Cree Resort and Casino.

MFC 19: Famous is set for Friday, December 5 inside The Venue at River Cree and it will mark the 12th consecutive sold-out show for the Maximum Fighting Championship – more proof of the fans’ passion and excitement for our organization and our fighters. The event will be shown live throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico on HDNet Fights.

Long Time Coming will be headlined by light heavyweight champion Roger “The Hulk” Hollett (8-1) making the first defence of his MFC crown when he meets No. 1-ranked challenger Emanuel “The Hardcore Kid” Newton (12-3). Hollett, who hails from Halifax, Nova Scotia, is a feared striker known for his devastating knockouts. Among the array of fighters he has finished in convincing fashion is former MFC light heavyweight champion Victor Valimaki. Newton burst onto the scene at MFC 18 when the Californian stopped veteran David Heath in the second round.

In a featured “superfight” two international stars will collide in a welterweight matchup. Vancouver native John “The Natural” Alessio (24-11), who now trains in Las Vegas alongside UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, will take on English knockout sensation Paul “Semtex” Daley (18-7). Both fighters are known throughout the world for their aggressive style and explosive nature in the ring.

There are 11 fights in total on the MFC 19: Long Time Coming card including three key matchups in three different divisions. In what will surely be a top contender clash in the MFC’s talent-rich lightweight division, American Derrick Noble (22-11), a feared striker/wrestler, will take on slick submission specialist Ariel Sexton (6-1) from Costa Rica.

In a middleweight showdown, a pair of new faces will hit the MFC ring as Oklahoma native Joey Gorczynski (13-3) will take on Halifax’s Kyle Sanford (7-1). The MFC will also present the first encounter in its new featherweight (145 pound) division with a top-notch battle between Florida’s Mike Bruno (9-3) and undefeated Illinois native Kyle Dietz (13-0).

Long Time Coming’s undercard will also showcase a number of promising fighters including a matchup between two of Alberta’s best young competitors in Mike Sorensen (4-1) and Ryan Machan (8-2). There is a feature fight for jiu-jitsu black belt Josh Russell (a co-trainer of Alberta’s own UFC superstar Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald) and a much-wanted rematch between hard-hitting light heavyweights Aron Lofton and Jason Kuchera.
