PHILADELPHIA – NOV 9, 2090 – Mixed Martial Arts Expo – the original MMA Expo since 2005 – announced today the addition of a 2.5 day seminar for MMA Referees and Judges at the upcoming MMA Expo Philadelphia on January 9-10. The program will be delivered by international MMA official, Marc Fennell, president of Mixed Martial Arts Referee Consultation Services (MMARCS).

MMA Expo President, Gerald Chopik: “Marc Fennell is one of the most experienced international MMA referees out there. He has officiated literally hundreds of cage fights throughout Canada, Costa Rica and the Midwest USA, including UFC 90 in Chicago and we are proud to offer his MMARCS program at MMA Expo Philly. MMA Expo has always been much more than a Fan Expo and the Ref and Judging seminar dove-taisl perfectly into the rest of our offerings.”

The MMARCS seminar offers MMA buffs with a professional interest in the sport the opportunity to get the skills required to begin their career as an MMA Referee or Judge. For those already officiating MMARCS is designed to further enhance their current skills in order to be even better positioned for the booming business of MMA.

“Being a MMA Official should be treated no differently than any other licensed occupation with continuing education and training”, explains Fennell. “MMA is constantly evolving and being properly trained and educated is paramount when it comes to safety and making the decision whether or not to allow fighters to continue to do battle. These seminars are also a great way to network with other officials, share experiences and challenge each other in a controlled environment.”

The demand for experienced referees and judges is increasing exponentially as a result of the explosion of MMA across North America and beyond. Fennell Points out “As the level of competition in the sport increases promoters, fighters and fans are calling for better-educated MMA officials at their events.” The comprehensive MMARCS course includes all the key topics one needs as an MMA official including: pre-fight and post-fight responsibilities, rules, fouls, in-cage positioning, mechanics and more.

Fennell was also keen to hook up with MMA Expo. “Beyond the fact that MMA Expo pioneered the concept five years ago what has impressed me the most is that the event has a great reputation and is constantly improving. And now it’s expanding throughout North America. Jerry and his team are always thinking “outside the box” and it shows with the quality and depth of MMA Expo year after year. MMA is a tough business. He’s not afraid to step into the ring and risk taking a few shots to bring innovation to MMA and I’m excited and honored to be part of the team.”

The MMARCS program is designed to teach participants how to be a competent referee or judge and perhaps most importantly, how to perform consistency in-cage with confidence and fighter safety in mind.

Cost for the entire weekend program including Certificate of Completion is $200 and registration is limited to a maximum of 20 participants. For more information and to enrol click here: http://philadelphia.mixedmartialartsexpo.com/?cmd=contentPages&sec=RefClinic.
