Lauzon vs. Johnson Set For UFC on FOX Sports1 1

by Adam Martin

A battle of exciting lightweights coming off of losses has been set for this coming summer.

According to, lightweights Joe Lauzon and Michael Johnson will meet at UFC on FOX Sports 1 1, which takes place August 17 at TD Bank Garden in Boston, MA. The fight is likely to take place on the evening’s preliminary card.

Lauzon (22-8) is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC and is tied with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva for the most post-fight bonus awards in UFC history with 12. The 28-year-old is a native of Massachusetts and will be fighting in Boston for the second time in his UFC career, as he submitted Gabe Ruediger at UFC 117, the UFC’s first event in Boston. Lauzon, who has superb submission skills, is coming off a decision loss to Jim Miller at UFC 155 in what was one of the best fights of 2012 and this fight against Johnson has the potential to be just as exciting.

Johnson (12-8) is 4-4 in the UFC and has lost two-straight fights, including a submission loss in his last outing to Reza Madadi at UFC on FUEL TV 9. The 26-year-old is a very exciting fighter just like Lauzon so it’s not a surprise the UFC decided to match them up, especially with both men coming off of losses in their last respective fights. Johnson has lost two-straight fights and he desperately needs a win here against Lauzon to not only stay relavent in the division, but keep his job in the UFC, so expect him to be in great shape for this fight.

The only other fight so far announced for UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 is a welterweight bout between Matt Brown and Thiago Alves but expect more to be announced in the coming days and weeks.
