UFC Fans Celebrate…Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Just Around the Corner

Mixed Martial Arts Fans can now enjoy the fitness, strength conditioning and exhilaration of training in the fastest growing sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Gracie Barra Chicago in Chicago’s north side.

Chicago, IL, March 12, 2008 –(PR.COM)– From no-holds-barred challenge matches to Ultimate Fighting Championships on TV and international sport tournaments around the world, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has come a long way and has now become a local phenomenon. Proven by many to be the most effective martial art in self defense, Jiu Jitsu has gotten the attention of many Chicagoans who are willing to spice up their workout routines.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a fighting style that is known for helping smaller men take down and defeat much larger assailants. Over the past 70 years Grand Master of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Carlos Gracie, his brothers, sons, nephews, grandsons and students have challenged and defeated much bigger opponents from all styles of fighting: boxing, karate, kung fu, judo, wrestling, etc. Just ask Chicago Police officer Benny Acevedo who has been training the sport for seven years, “this has impacted my life tremendously, it’s helped me have a lot more confidence and awareness in dealing with dangerous people on the street.”

Owner and instructor Eddie Redzovic at Gracie Barra in Chicago’s Lincoln Square neighborhood has seen interest in his academy dramatically increase over the past couple of years. Eddie, a black belt who represents the legendary Carlos Gracie Jr, thinks the shows on TV such as the hit reality series “The Ultimate Fighter” has helped spread the word about Jiu Jitsu’s effectiveness, but most of his new students come from existing student referrals. “Our students consist of people from all walks of life – law enforcement, firefighters, lawyers, web designers, etc. Everyone wants to feel confident walking down the street,” says Eddie.

Gracie Barra Chicago was established in 2001 and is located at 4900 N. Lincoln Ave. Eddie Redzovic was the first American given the right to open up a Gracie Barra school outside of Brazil. The academy boasts over 200 students, some driving as far as Kalamazoo, MI for the unique training experience.
