The UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 has received a late addition.
According to Ivan Raupp of Globo in Brazil, middleweight Francisco “Massranduba” Trinaldo will take on UFC newcomer Piotr Hallmann at UFC on FOX Sports 1 3, which is set to take place Sept. 4 at Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The bout will be a part of the evening’s preliminary fight card.
Massaranduba (13-2) is 3-1 in the UFC with stoppage wins over Mike Rio, CJ Keith and Delson Heleno, with the lone loss coming to veteran Gleison Tibau. The 34-year-old Massaranduba, who appeared on TUF Brazil 1, hits like a truck but it’s the fact he has a submission game as well that makes him such a frightening opponent. Already in his mid-30s, Massaranduba needs to start making a run up the ladder now if his goal is to be the UFC champ but the promotion isn’t doing him any favors by matching him up with UFC newcomers like Hallmann.
Hallmann (13-1) is a Polish middleweight prospect who will be making his UFC debut this fall. I’m surprised the UFC decided to give him a really tough opponent like Massaranduba in his first fight in the Octagon, but UFC matchmaker Joe Silva must really see something in Hallmann and therefore wants to see him get tested against a good fighter right away. With 12 of his 13 career wins coming via stoppage and currently riding a nine-fight win streak, Hallmann is on a roll and I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of a career he can have in the Octagon.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 3 is headlined by a five-round light heavyweight matchup between Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader and the co-main event of the evening is a middleweight bout between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Yushin Okami.
