UFC 101 in Philly - Penn vs Florian

Mike Brown managed to spoil the party... again. In front of an estimated 13,000+ at Arco Arena in Sacramento on Sunday, Brown successfully defended his WEC Featherweight title against superstar challenger Urijah Faber... in Faber's own backyard.

The reception Faber got was tremendous, almost a pro-wrestling like atmosphere. Brown was heavily booed, but moreso because he was "the rival of the hometown favorite" as opposed to anything he himself did to anger the fans.

Boxing & MMA Tournament World’s Collide Primm Casino, Nevada

Primm, Nev. – Terrible’s Primm Valley Casino Resorts in association with Roy Englebrecht Events present Worlds Collide, a boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) tournament with bouts sharing the same ring on the same night. The six-show series set for Saturday nights in 2009 will debut at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 in the Star of the Desert Arena at Buffalo Bill’s Resort.

“We are excited to combine my great first love, boxing, with MMA at Terrible’s Primm Valley Casino Resorts,” said president of Worlds Collide Fights, LLC and boxing world champion Fernando Vargas. “Together with my partners, we look forward to putting on many more exciting nights merging the two sports.”

The dual sport concept will showcase three weight categories at 130, 160 and 200 pounds, featuring eight professional boxers and eight professional mixed martial arts fighters in each of three weight divisions in a “winner take all” tournament format. The six Worlds Collide Champions will win a total of $10,000 in purses, with winners in the quarterfinals winning $2,000, in the semi finals winners receive $3,000, and the six Worlds Collide champions each win $5,000. Quarterfinals are set for Feb. 14, April 18, June 20 and will feature four boxing and four MMA quarterfinal bouts on each of the dates. Winners then advance to the semi finals on Aug. 22 and Oct. 17 with finalist competing in the Worlds Collide Championship on Dec. 5, 2009. Only fighters with 10 or fewer pro fights and a winning record are eligible to fight in the Worlds Collide Tournament, and fighters who qualify and are interested in being selected need to contact Roy Englebrecht at boxing77@aol.com or 949.760.3131. All Competitors in Worlds Collide will be announced in early January.
