For quite some time, there has been heavy speculation about a boxer stepping into the cage to fight a mixed martial artist, or a mixed martial artist entering the squared circle to challenge a prize fighter. While both discussed bouts in each others sport, boxer Floyd Mayweather and mixed martial artist Anderson Silva, top fighters in their respective sports, never did take the trip to the opposition’s lions den. “The Celtic Warrior” Bobby Gunn, a former bare knuckle fighter and current IBC International Cruiserweight champion, wants to be the first to officially make it happen.
Last night on “The Biggest Radio Show in the World”, Gunn participated in a boxing vs MMA debate with Ken Shamrock. Gunn then proceeded to openly challenged UFC star Chuck Liddell to a stand up fight. Gunn was exuberant in his challenge and hopes to make it happen in the near future.
“Ken Shamrock was very offensive”, said Gunn. “With all due respect, what did you think was going to happen when fighters sit down to talk? It seems to be ok when a UFC fighter talks how their sport is more popular and better then boxing so I stepped up to the plate and challenged the self proclaimed biggest striker in UFC (Chuck Liddell)”, said the former IBA cruiserweight champion.
“I offered to make things simple. I am a legitimate boxer, who has fought for world titles. I will fight him straight up, bare fists, winner take all. My attorney George Kokkalenios has been working hard behind the scenes with Dave Feldman of FelKO Promotions and my close friend Kyle White in attempt to make this happen”, explained Gunn. “It’s funny because Shamrock hung up the phone after I made the challenge. There two kinds of people in the world, the ones who talk about it and the ones who do it, so we will see what type of people Shamrock and Liddell are”, proclaimed Gunn.
