Last Wednesday I was supposed
to have sex go out with a tall, blue-eyed Jewish man. Even though I’m a sucker for a light-eyed “chosen one,” I cancelled because I didn’t feel like showering, (I’ll be single forever since I’d rather lay in bed and tweet than shave my legs for a date), and my weeknight laziness was further encouraged when I heard Ronda Rousey would be on “Jim Rome on Showtime.” While my date may have disappointed me, Rousey never does.
If you’ve been in an “OMG the world is ending December 21st and I need to build a zombie apocalypse bomb shelter” haze for 2012, you may not know that Ronda Rousey is the reigning UFC/Strikeforce bantamweight champion who made history by becoming the first female fighter to sign with the UFC. In layman’s terms, she’s effing fierce. Also, this past summer, Rousey set newsstands on fire when she graced the cover of ESPN’s “Body Issue” magazine. While Ronda is widely known for her arm collecting and gorgeous aesthetics, her confident wit is the sexiest thing about her.
Jim Rome must’ve missed Rousey’s interview with Conan O’Brien, in August, since he posed a similar question last week, asking Rousey what her opinion on sex before a fight it is. With a sexy smirk, Ronda quipped, “For girls, it raises your testosterone, so I try to have as much sex as possible before I fight, actually. Not with like everybody. I don’t put out Craigslist ads or anything. But if I’ve got a steady I’m going to be like ‘Yo, fight time’s coming up.’ ”
Damn straight fight time’s coming up, all day everyday. Well, maybe not all day, we little women have to do other things to like clean, cook and make babies? Psh. Whatever. Women love/want/need sex just as much as men do. While I’ve never put ads on Craigslist to solicit sex either, I’ve definitely made my share of online dating profiles, which is basically the same thing so I appreciate the humor. Tons of articles came out the day after Ronda’s interview revolving around the aforementioned quote. It was as if it came as some BIG shock that women like to wrestle in the sheets. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had the sex-drive of a fourteen year old boy. Giggity. It’s a common misconception that women aren’t nearly as interested in sex as men are. Maybe I’m an exception, (most of my girl friends must be too) and not EVERY girl fantasizes about being naked 24/7, but it’s super refreshing to have such a strong, yet feminine, woman like Ronda confirm a female desire for
fucking like a dude sex. We’ve certainly come a long way since Britney Spears pretended to be a virgin.
It’s not just about sex. It never is. Right boys?! Ronda is strong-willed and driven. She is a true role-model in every sense of the word. She has ambition and gives hope to younger generations with their own dreams and goals. Rousey proves if you want something in life, you take it. You can’t sit back and wait for opportunities to be handed to you. Go after them with every ounce of your being and don’t take ‘no’ for an answer. She has already accomplished so much for women’s MMA and shows no signs of slowing down. Less publicized, but just as noteworthy, in the same interview with Jim Rome, she mentioned she hardly spent any time celebrating her major accomplishment of being the first woman to sign with the UFC and immediately refocused on training to win her next fight, with whomever that may be.
It’s easy to see why men love Ronda, but every woman should too. If you show me a woman who isn’t a fan, then I’ll show you an insecure woman. According to my dead mom, “If somebody doesn’t like you, the odds are they’re jealous.” It makes sense, and you can’t argue with a dead person anyway, so thankfully “Rowdy” is here with similar logic. Ronda once wrote “Some people like to call me cocky or arrogant, but I just think ‘How dare you assume I should think less of myself? The problem isn’t me thinking I can achieve any goal I set for myself, the problem is you projecting your own self doubt onto me.’” You’d be wise to hop on the “Rowdy” train now because there aren’t any pit stops for this superstar.
