With Bellator 85 just in the books the the fight promotion is already looking toward the future. Obviously, Bellator 86 has been announced for next week which will host the opening round of this season’s welterweight tournament, and King Mo Lawal will make his promotional debut on that card as well. Now, they have announced their first card for the month of March. Taking place at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California Bellator 92 looks to give lightweight champion Michael Chandler his next opponent, because the card’s main event is between Season 7 Lightweight Tournament finalists Dave Jansen and Marcin Held which was postponed due to injury.
Held is a 21-year old Polish grappling ace who has submitted 8 of his 15 wins. If Held wins he will be looking at a rematch with Chandler who submitted him with an arm-triangle choke in the opening round of the Season 4 Lightweight Tournament. Held has submitted two of his last three opponents one by heel hook, and he took out veteran Rich Clementi by toe hold back at Bellator 81.
For Jensen, he is no slouch on the ground either having taken 11 of his 19 wins by submission. Jensen viewed this lightweight tournament as his last chance at glory in MMA after two straight losses in the WEC put an end to his 14-fight undefeated streak. So far, in the Bellator promotion Jensen has gone undefeated through five fights. Winning three out of his last four by submission, he went into his semifinal match with Ricardo Tirloni with a lot of confidence. He used his experience to outlast the Brazilian to pick up a split-decision win. Held may have a tough fight ahead of him since no one so far has been able to submit Jensen through 21 professional fights.
This will be the promotions second fight in California as they have moved their base of operations into the Orange County area. They are also picking up a lot of local talent with Michael Guymon, Brian Warren, Jason Lambert, Savant Young, and Jaime Yager among others. They are sure to put more local talent for this card considering Dan Henderson’s Team Quest is locate din Temecula as well. Recent rumors are swirling that Bellator has picked up Strikeforce and Ultimate Fighter alum Ricky Legere Jr. for this card who trains out of Team Quest. He looks to be making his debut at 155 after fighting most of his career at welterweight. We will see if those rumors prove true in the next month.
